Firstly, all dogs are required to be registered with their local council. If your dog is found not registered, that’s a $295 fine. When your dog is registered, they’re issued with a registration tag they must wear on their collar. If your dog is not wearing it’s registration tag outside your premises, that’s a $74 fine.
Walking your dog off leash in an on leash area? $148 fine.
If you’re out walking your pooch & fail to pick up it’s poop? $250.
So how exactly am I going to get caught?
Well, you might be surprised to know that there are council workers who patrol dog-popular spots. Generally they’re just out & about checking for registration details & ensuring dogs are off leash in the correct areas. It’s not common to see them (during the time I’ve been walking I’ve only been approached once). But still, it’s worthwhile taking note of the local rules & regulations, otherwise your dog walk could quickly turn very expensive!
